D&RGW Railroad Handlan Flat Top Lantern w/Amber Etched "D&RGW" Tall Globe
Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad tall globe lanterns are getting harder to find these days. Tall globe lanterns were replaced with short globe lanterns around the early 1920's. The transition year for the name change of D&RG to D&RGW was 1922. So most of the D&RGW lanterns you will find will be short globe A&W Adlake No. 200 or 250 frames. This frame is in excellent condition with lots of original tin, and has only been cleaned of oil and dirt, then hand polished. It stands 9 3/4" tall without the bail. The lid is embossed "D&RGW, Handlan, St. Louis, U.S.A.". It does have a few minor dings on the top. The bottom of the fount holder is embossed "Handlan, St. Louis" with the patent numbers This lantern comes with a very nice 5 3/8" tall amber globe that is etched "D&RGW" and "Safety First", and is in near mint condition with no cracks or rim chips. The lantern comes with the correct Handlan pot & burner that is marked "Handlan, St. Louis, MO" on the adjustment knob. The bottom of the fount was repaired at one time, but will hold oil & burn. The bail handle does have some surface roughness, very minor, but must be mentioned for accuracy. This hard to find Colorado railroad lantern is ready to be proudly displayed in your collection!
