1889 Burlington Route Red Cast Extended Base Globe M.M. Buck Lantern
Here is a very nice midwest railroad lantern made by the M.M. Buck Company out of St. Louis. This 1889 Burlington Route Railroad lantern is in very good condition with solid metal and tin. It is embossed on the top lid "Burlington Route, M.M. Buck & Co., St. Louis. There is some very light surface roughness on the top lid, but no pin holes (see pictures). Underneath the lid shows lots of tin. The frame is 10 3/4" tall without the bail, and has been cleaned, then hand polished. The lantern comes with a very hard to find dark red flashed extended base globe that is 5 5/16" tall, and is cast in a square panel "Burlington Route". There are five very minor bottom rim flakes that do not show when in the frame. The globes top rim is in excellent condition. The twist off fount and burner are in excellent condition with lots of tin, and will still hold oil and burn. The bottom of the fount is stamped "Patented, Dec. 18, 88, June 18, 89, Sept. 24, 89". You don't find these lantern very often now days, so don't miss out on this beauty!
