D&RGW Railroad Handlan Lantern w/Amber Etched Tall Corning Globe.
Here is a very nice Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad lantern from the early 1920's that you can proudly display! Tall globe lanterns were replaced with short globe lanterns around the early 1920's. The transition year for the name change of D&RG to D&RGW was 1922. So most of the D&RGW lanterns you will find will be short globe A&W Adlake No. 250 frames. This frame is in excellent condition with lots of original tin, and has only been cleaned of oil & dirt, then hand polished. It is marked on the top lower part of the lid "D&RGW, #2550", and "Handlan, St. Louis, USA" on the top portion. The lid does have a few minor dings on the top edge. The frame stand 10" tall without the bail. This lantern comes with a very nice 5 3/8" amber Corning globe that is etched "D&RGW" on the front, and "Safety First" with the cast Corning "Cnx" logo on the back side. The top and bottom rims of the globe are in excellent to near mint condition with only one small very minor rim flake on each rim (see pictures). The lantern comes with the original burner & pot which are in excellent condition, and will still hold oil. For the serious Colorado railroad collector, here is your chance to own a fairly hard to find tall globe D&RGW lantern with a marked colored globe. Don't wait too long!
