1870's Mahogany Octagon Flip-Top Sewing Cabinet
We see many sewing cabinets in our travels and this one is a special favorite of ours! The pillar & scroll base has four rolled feet, with the center of the base having acanthus leaf carving. The center is octagon, narrow at the base, widening at the top. Dimensions of the sewing cabinet are: 20" in diameter and 28 3/4" tall. The octagon top opens to reveal a deep center well for sewing material. There are eight small trapezoid cubbies for sewing accessories and miscellaneous items. Three of the sections have wooden dowels for thread, four sections have lids with tiny wooden knobs, and one section is open. The finish is old and original with only a couple of minor scuff marks, and a 1" square veneer piece missing on the back side of the base, these are minor, as it has been taken care of over the years very well (see picture). The back hinge is brass, with five screws and no repairs. This sewing cabinet is one many ladies would be proud to own...why not you?!
