1880's-90's 18" French Bisque Rabery & Delphieu Doll
A very sweet, attractive, and very collectible doll produced in the 1880-90's by Rabery & Delphieu, Paris, France. The 18" tall doll is in excellent condition and is from the estate of Frances B. Sims, of Salida, Colorado. Mrs. Sims amassed a collection of over 1,100 dolls of all types and won many ribbons as a member of the United Federation of Doll Collectors. The face of this particular doll is an exact match to the Rabery & Delphieu bisque doll on page 512 of the "Collectors' Encyclopedia of Dolls." Her head is bisque and her body is jointed wood. Her hands are old replacements, according to her records, and they match perfectly. The back of her torso has a red check, which may indicate Jumeau. Her neck has "R1D," with a dot over the one. She has brown glass eyes, closed mouth, and pierced ears. She has her original real brown hair wig. She is wearing a green plaid taffeta coat dress with lace. Her undergarments and leather boots are old, with the exception of her nylon undershirt. The left boot has had some careful repair to the sole, and both toes are very worn. The body and legs are in excellent condition. She has a very faint hairline at the top of her forehead, according to her records, but we cannot see it. For a collector of early bisque dolls, this would be a wonderful acquisition!
