1918 American Railway Express Agency Ticket Cabinet
If you have been collecting railroadiana for any length of time, you probably have many of those special paper items, wax sealers, baggage tags, etc. that you have no place to store. This American Railway Express Agency ticket cabinet can solve that problem! This is the third railroad ticket cabinet of a collection of four that we recently acquired from an estate out of Texas. The original owner was the station agent in Canyon and Stratford, Texas, part of the Santa Fe Railway line. The station was opened December 25, 1925, and closed in 1982. This cabinet is in excellent condition. It is pine, with a solid door that opens to the right. The lock works, and the original key is attached by a chain to the front. It is stenciled in black "American-RLWY-Exp" on the top, and "ARE 1918" on the bottom right, and there is a metal tag attached to the top right side of the cabinet that reads "ARE 68864." The wood does not appear to be refinished, but carpet has been attached to the base so it can sit on a table. The interior of the cabinet has 19 pigeon holes of various sizes for paperwork of all types and one long bottom drawer with a brass pull. There is a small selection of Railway Express Agency paperwork in the drawer. There are a few ink stains in the bottom of the drawer. Dimensions of the ticket cabinet are; 33 1/4"tall, 25 1/8" wide, and 11 ½" deep. The cabinet weighs approximately 48 lbs. This is a very large and extremely collectible railroad piece, not to mention it is a great item to store all of your railroad papers in!
