1890 Diamond Dye Cabinet "Evolution of Woman"
A general store display cabinet we have recently acquired and are pleased to offer for sale. This 1890 Diamond Dye cabinet was frequently offered as a premium to businesses ordering $20.00 or more of their products. The cabinet are in great demand today because of their attractiveness. This particular Diamond Dye cabinet is the "Evolution of Woman". The wood is birch, with Eastlake style routering of the corners and edges. It is featured on page no. 67 of "Mom & Pop Stores" by Richard A. Penn. We classified this cabinet as being in "very good condition", and valued around $1,800.00, but you be the judge. A cabinet in good condition would be worth around $1,400.00, which makes this cabinet a bargain. $2,400.00 to $3,100.00 for one in excellent to mint condition in the Richard A. Penn book. The tin lithograph has tiny overall spots from age, and a bit of dirt in the corners. There are no serious scratches or dents. In the lower right corner is printed "Kellogg & Bulkiley Co.". The birch cabinet has the original finish with a few filled nail holes. It has been re-glued, and had a few nails added to make the cabinet more stable. There is one 3" long by ½" wide sliver of wood gone from the lower left front corner. It has been missing for a long time. The back has sliding doors, one with a wooden knob. Most of the pigeon holes are intact. Dimensions of the cabinet are; 22 1/4" wide, 9 3/4" deep, and 29 3/4" tall. This is an excellent general store display cabinet, and would make a spectacular addition to your collection!
